Ole Smoky Moonshine Honored By The New York International Spirits Competition
Gatlinburg, TN (November, 19, 2013) – With winners announced just this week, Ole Smoky® Tennessee Moonshine was honored by the New York International Spirits Competition (“NYISC”) held in New York City on October 21st in two top categories. Ole Smoky was recognized in the Domestic category as Tennessee Distillery of the Year and took home a silver medal for their Ole Smoky Original Moonshine in the Whiskey category. With over 400 entries from 37 countries, brands were evaluated by leading experts in the spirits and hospitality industries.
“We are thrilled to be recognized by the NYISC this year,” said Ole Smoky co-founder Joe Baker. “We started Ole Smoky in our hometown just three years ago, and now we are in 49 states and Canada. We’ve come a long way, and to be recognized by the experts in our industry is incredibly rewarding.”
“We are thrilled to award Ole Smoky Tennessee Distillery of the Year. We first tasted their products at Tales of the Cocktail and were excited when they submitted this year. Their win is a great example of how the craft industry continues to grow in quality and categories,” said Adam Levy, NYISC Founder.
Ole Smoky is the leading distiller of premium moonshine in the U.S. and the first federally licensed distillery in the history of East Tennessee. The company’s roots can be traced to the early settlers of the Smoky Mountains, where they refined the art of whiskey making in order to survive during tough economic times. When Tennessee state law changed in 2009, allowing the licensed production of whiskey and other spirits across new counties, a group of local families saw an opportunity to showcase the art of superior, mountain-made moonshine.
